Grooming is full of new and unusual experiences for puppies – a new environment, strangers moving them around and touching different parts of their body and feet, and equipment that makes loud noises, vibrates or blows warm air. The earlier your puppy is introduced to grooming, and the more frequently they are exposed to it while young, the more they will enjoy it moving forward.

To introduce puppies to grooming, I have developed the following Introduction to Grooming Package:

This may be your puppy’s first outing and will be new and exciting for them. During this visit you are encouraged to stay. Puppy will have a brush and comb out, their face and hygiene areas trimmed and clipped, and their feet trimmed and nails cut. They will be exposed to the salon, including being handled, as well as clippers and scissors. We can have a chat, and you’re welcome to ask me any questions you may have.

This second visit will be the same as above, but you will leave this time.

On their third visit, puppy will have their first bath and blow dry. If they have had a bath at home before this visit, then that should not be so new to them. You may have introduced puppy to a hair dryer, which is probably quieter and less powerful than the dryers we use. We take it low and slow with the dryer to get them used to the sounds and feeling of warm air blowing on them. They will then have a brush, face, hygiene area, and foot trim and nails cut as above.

This will be puppy’s first full groom. All of the above will happen, along with a full-body clip.

During all of these visits, there will be loads of cuddles and treats, and we will be aiming for a positive, fun experience.
